The PKD Charity in partnership with BODY WORLDS 4 held its first national Awareness Event at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry

Speakers on the night included Tess Harris (Chairman), Andy Williamson, who recently received a live kidney organ transplant, Doctor Anand Saggar, co-founder of PKD Charity, and Doctor Donal O’Donoghue, the UK’s Clinical Director of UK Renal Services.

Dr Saggar showed what a polycystic kidney looks like using a specimen from the exhibition at the MOSI (see photo gallery). He spoke about current research into the treatment of PKD, including the Tolvaptan TEMPO trial and a new study in which plain water was found to reduce cyst size in rats with PKD. The Charity is intending to raise funds in the UK to sponsor a clinical trial with water in the near future.
