Seven Million Lives at Risk: What's the Plan?
Kidney disease affects millions of people in the UK and is one of the fastest-growing health challenges, yet it has been under-prioritised for far too long. Following the government’s 10-Year Health Plan, PKD Charity, alongside partners from across the kidney community, is calling for a national kidney disease strategy focused on prevention, earlier diagnosis and better care.
Last year as part of this campaign we delivered an open letter to Downing Street, signed by over 13,000 people, urging the Prime Minister to take urgent action on kidney disease. You can read more about the campaign here.
Voices to Vision: Co-designing a Kidney Disease Strategy
To make sure this strategy is grounded in real experiences, we are running Voices to Vision – a national listening programme in 2026 – in collaboration with Kidney Care UK, Kidney Research UK, the National Kidney Federation, and the UK Kidney Association, with support from NHS England’s kidney care leaders.
The NHS is changing, with a stronger focus on prevention, digital tools and care closer to home. This is a real opportunity to improve kidney services – but only if people affected by kidney disease help shape what happens next. Your experiences can show what works, where services fall short and what must change.
What is Voices to Vision?
Voices to Vision brings together people living with kidney disease, families, carers, healthcare professionals, researchers and charities to co-design a community-informed Kidney Disease Strategy. What we hear will be turned into clear priorities and recommendations, which will be shared with government to help influence future policy and service planning.
The programme will focus on:
- Improving kidney care and outcomes
- Gaps and variation in current services
- New ways of working, including innovation and technology
- Priorities for future service planning
Ways to get involved
There are many ways to take part in Voices to Vision, including in-person and virtual listening events, surveys and online sessions.
There will also be:
- Surveys to gather evidence and priorities for change
- Webinars exploring new ideas and innovations in kidney care
- Virtual workshops on key challenges and opportunities
- Expert interviews and panel discussions
Who can take part?
We want to hear from anyone with a connection to kidney disease, including:
- People living with kidney disease
- Families, carers and loved ones
- Healthcare professionals and service staff
- Researchers, charities and industry partners
The strategy will mainly focus on services in England, but we welcome contributions from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as changes in one nation can affect care across the UK. Whether your experience is recent or long-term, personal or professional, your voice matters.

You can help by writing to your MP and asking what the Government is doing to tackle kidney disease. We’re calling on MPs to raise this issue with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting MP.
